The Literacy Alliance matches volunteer tutors with adult students who are struggling with the fundamentals of reading, writing and speaking English. Tutors have the option of working with native English speakers or those learning English as a new language.

If you are interested in becoming a literacy tutor and are curious about what the experience might involve, we suggest that you visit the on-line Verizon Literacy Campus and take the free 45-minute course“Orientation to Volunteering in Literacy” – one of many interesting courses they offer.

We provide two days of training for literacy tutors and ongoing support through personal meetings, telephone calls, and e-communication. If you would like to become a tutor, please view the training schedule and download the application packet (Adobe® Reader® required). For additional information about volunteering as a literacy tutor, phone us at 260-426-7323 or send a message to info@fwliteracyalliance.org.

Students and tutors meet at least once a week and often study at various branches of the Allen County Public Library. We also operate a small computer lab where students can work with educational software.
