Literacy Tutors
To end illiteracy we need your help. Your volunteer time can make a tremendous difference in the life of an adult struggling with poor reading skills. Literacy tutors generally spend two or three hours/week either meeting one-on-one with an adult learner or assisting at an adult Learning Center. Learning Center tutors assist adults who may be studying language (reading and writing) and/or math.

If you are interested in becoming a literacy tutor and are curious about what the experience might involve, we suggest that you visit the on-line Verizon Literacy Campus and take the free, 45-minute course, “Orientation to Volunteering in Literacy."

The Literacy Alliance provides two days of training for literacy tutors and ongoing support through personal meetings, telephone calls, and e-communication. If you would like to become a tutor, please view the training schedule and download the application packet (Adobe® Reader® required). For additional information about volunteering as a literacy tutor, phone us at 260-426-7323 or send a message to info@fwliteracyalliance.org.

Story Friends
Story Friend volunteers foster a love of reading by providing a positive reading experience for young children in daycare centers and medical clinic waiting rooms. Story Friends commit to reading once a week for a twelve-week period. We provide training and ongoing support through personal meetings, telephone calls, and e-communication. For additional information about volunteering as a Story Friend, phone us at 260-426-7323 or send a message to info@fwliteracyalliance.org.
